Global Justice Institute Issues Call for Prayer, Action, and Humanitarian Relief Following Devastating Nepal Himalayas Disaster
NEW YORK City, USA — The Council of Bishops of the Global Justice Institute has released an official statement expressing solidarity, sorrow, and an urgent call to support emergency relief operations in Nepal following the recent catastrophic glacier collapse, avalanches, and flash floods across the high Himalayan border region.
Official Statement from the Global Justice Institute Council of Bishops:
“While the Global Justice Institute focuses on justice and safety for LGBTQIA2S+ people in areas where they face oppression and danger and we offer support only when it is requested, it is also true that as people of faith we care for the welfare of all people as in truth, we are one human family. And in any case, the hurting people of Nepal must include the Queer children of God.
Our hearts ache as we turn our thoughts toward the people of Nepal and the high Himalayan border region following the catastrophic glacier collapse, avalanches, and flash floods. In the face of such sudden, devastating loss, the global human family stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the communities whose lives, homes, and futures have been altered in a single afternoon.
To those who are grieving the loss of loved ones, we offer our deepest condolences. There are no words sufficient to erase the pain of a life cut short or to instantly heal the grief of families now facing an uncertain tomorrow. To those who are anxiously waiting for news of missing parents, children, spouses, friends, and neighbors—whether local residents, mountain guides, or travelers from afar—we share in your anguish. The profound weight of uncertainty is heavy, and we hold space for hope and strength during these dark hours of waiting.
We extend our boundless gratitude and solidarity to the brave first responders, medical teams, local volunteers, and military personnel operating under extraordinarily hazardous conditions. Digging through thick mud, clearing severed mountain passes, and navigating treacherous terrain to reach isolated villages requires immense courage and selflessness. Their heroic efforts embody the sacred truth of our shared humanity: even in the most difficult moments of tragedy, the spirit of service, compassion, and care shines bright.
Nepal and its people have long demonstrated an inspiring resilience, rooted in deep community, faith, and mutual support. Yet no community should have to carry the burden of such immense hardship alone. As emergency operations continue and the long, difficult path toward recovery and rebuilding begins, let us surround the people of Nepal with sustained global solidarity, material relief, and unyielding emotional support.
May a sense of peace, comfort, and healing surround every individual touched by this tragedy. May those who are lost be remembered with love, may those who are searching find answers, and may the collective strength of humanity support Nepal as it mourns, heals, and rebuilds. Amen."
