Global Justice Institute Bishops “Alligator Alcatraz”
August 1, 2025 | For Immediate Release
Join Bishop Durrell Watkins, D.Min. and Bishop Robert L. Griffin, D. Min. and many others for a Prayer Vigil at "Alligator Alcatraz".
Leaders of faith and conscience from across Florida are holding weekly interfaith vigils each Sunday, starting August 3, from 5:00pm-6:00pm outside the detention center to pray and witness against the inhumane and unconstitutional treatment of our neighbors.
We ask clergy to don vestments as appropriate to their office.
Everyone is welcome to this peaceful gathering.
Dress for mosquito protection.
Park on the side of the road near the detention center.
The vigil is recurring weekly, each Sunday from 5:00-6:00pm ET
Location: 54575 Tamiami Trail E (Rt. 41), Ochopee, FL 34141
The vigil is rain or shine.
Bathrooms are about a 10m walk away.
Please meet at the entrance and park alongside the road as best you can. We suggest carpooling.
If you are using google maps put in:
Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, 54575 Tamiami Trail E, Ochopee, FL 34141 as the location.
Please be sure to RSVP for planning purposes using the QR code below.
Please remember, this is a Prayer Vigil, not a protest.
