Faith, Dignity, and Reproductive Justice: Accompanying Honduras’s Most Vulnerable Communities

Thousands of people are forced to migrate in order to survive Honduras ' structural violence.  Women, girls, and trans people bear the heaviest burden of precarious living conditions, religious fundamentalism, and sexist and transphobic violence.

In the face of this reality, “Ecuménicas por el Derecho a Decidir” (Ecumenical Women for the Right to Choose) offers a prophetic voice: a faith that liberates, accompanies, and affirms a flourishing life. Grounded in an ecumenical theology committed to human rights, the organization maintains that reproductive justice is not limited to the decriminalization of and access to safe abortion; it also includes the sacred right to bodily autonomy, comprehensive sexuality education, access to reproductive healthcare, and the material conditions necessary to ensure that girls’ futures are not cut short by forced motherhood.

Through three integrated pillars—legal support, psychological accompaniment, and community education—"Ecuménicas” creates spaces of healing, resistance, and sanctuary for those the system insists on silencing. Their grassroots ministry demonstrates that no one should be marginalized for living out their identity or making decisions about their own body.

As Metropolitan Community Churches—called to embody radical love, the inclusion of sexual diversity, and active solidarity against oppression—our faith calls us to concrete action. Through Justicia Global, we extend our table and our resources to support the vital work of Ecuménicas in Honduras. Every financial contribution sustains legal processes, psychological care, and educational workshops that save lives and restore dignity.
